When researching a new location I like to watch as many videos as possible. It doesn’t matter if it’s a documentary, a vlog, or even simple footage from the streets. Any and everything that adds context and background to my research is fair game.
The video below is a great example of street footage that shows everyday life and what to expect in downtown Yangon, Myanmar. Keep an eye out for how people respond to the camera; do they ignore it, do they jump in and want to be on camera, or are people hostile towards the photographer? These simple questions speak volumes about your intended destination.
Myanmar is a very friendly place. The people are warm and welcoming. I have never felt unsafe or uncomfortable anywhere in Myanmar, especially Yangon. The video below does a good job of showing everyday life in Yangon. The host walks us through and narrates his trip through Chinatown in downtown Yangon.
